International street had so much to see and we saw a ton of Shisa!
Aaron’s favourite Shisa set!
SHISA |March 13, 2019
Possibly the cutest, most iconic Okinawan decoration is the Shisa! Shisa are Ryukyuan cultural artifacts that resemble lion-dogs.
They are derived from the Chinese guardian lions, and they are so stinkin’ cute.
The male shisa with an open mouth keeps evil spirits out and the female one with a closed mouth keeps good spirits in.
The female shisa is always on the left, and the male is always on the right. Messing this up supposedly results in bad luck.
These cuties are my favourite!
We started taking pictures of the shisa to keep track of which ones were our favourites, so we could decide on a couple to bring back home.
